How To Calculate Roof Area For Roofing Shingles?

Roofing Shingles In Ettumanoor Kerala

How do you calculate the entire area of your roof?

Length x width = square footage

You’ll need to know the square footage of your roof’s surface in order to figure out how many shingles you’ll need. The area of your roof will be determined by the sort of roof you have, whether it’s a gable roof with fewer planes or a hip roof with more.

Measure the length and width of each plane’s roof, including overhangs, and multiply them together to get the square footage of your roof. Then add up each plane’s square footage. The total square footage will be calculated as a result of this.

What is needed to calculate the roof area:

  • Ladder
  • Large level
  • Measuring tape
  • Marker
  • Pencil, paper

MEASURING THE PITCH

To calculate the area of the roof, you first need to calculate its spacing:

  1. First, use a tape measure to measure 12 “on a large level and mark on the 12” line.
  2. Then place the ladder opposite the house at the end of the pediment.
  3. Climb to the top of your roof.
  4. Then place your spirit level on the gable cladding and flat on the house wall.
  5. Using a tape measure, measure from the 12-inch mark on your level to the bottom of the gable. This number is your rise.
  6. Each ascent measurement is labeled “# in 12”, which is the pitch of the roof.

CALCULATING THE AREA (ESTIMATED)

If you don’t want to do a lot of measurement, you can estimate the square footage of your roof using your pitch calculation:

  1. Once you have your roof’s pitch, divide the number by 12. Next, square your result.
  2. After that, add 1 to your number.
  3. figure out the square root of your new number.
  4. Determine the square footage of one floor of your home.
  5. Multiply this number by your most recent result to get the estimated square footage of your roof.

CALCULATING THE AREA (TRUE)

You can use the following procedures to get an exact area measurement for your roof:

  1. Once you have your roof’s pitch, divide the number by 12.
  2. Next, square your result.
  3. After that, add 1 to your number.
  4. Next, figure out the square root of your new number.
  5. Next, use your measuring tape to measure the length of your house.
  6. After that, measure the width of your house.
  7. Multiply your house length by your house width to get the area.
  8. Next, multiply the area by your roof’s pitch.
  9. To allow for hips, ridges, and waste, add 10% of your final number for a gable roof and 17% of your final number for a cottage roof.
